The chip removal system is one of the most important systems in the operation of a CNC lathe. Its main task is to clean the cutting residue generated during the machining process of the CNC lathe out of the operating space. This can ensure the cleanliness of the operating system and improve the machining accuracy to protect the machine and extend its service life. Today, our CNC lathe manufacturer will explain the four major components and important roles of the chip removal system in CNC lathes.
1. Chip generation and pretreatment process
The design of the machine tool itself: The chip guide groove on the inclined bed or flat bed of the CNC lathe can rely on gravity or coolant flushing to make the chips naturally flow towards the inlet of the chip discharger.
Tool chip breaking ability: By selecting appropriate tool groove types, parameters, and cutting parameters, chips can be broken into small "C" shapes or short spiral shapes that are easy to handle, which is a prerequisite for efficient chip removal.
2. Chip conveying device
This is the core mechanical part of the chip removal system, and common types include spiral chip removal, chain plate chip removal, and scraper chip removal.
3. Chip collection and processing unit
Chip collection vehicle: installed below the outlet of the chip conveyor, used to collect and transport chips in a centralized manner. Usually equipped with rollers for easy transportation and dumping.
Chip coolant separation device (optional but important):
Composition: Magnetic separator, vortex separator or filter screen, etc.
Function: Separate the coolant mixed in the chips, filter it and return it to the cooling box for recycling. This can save coolant costs, reduce environmental pollution, and increase the recycling value of chips (dry chips are easier to recycle).
4. Control system
The start and stop of the chip conveyor are usually controlled by the PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) of the machine tool.
It can be set to operate continuously, linked with the spindle (when the spindle rotates, the chip conveyor runs), or run intermittently for a fixed period of time to achieve energy saving and extend equipment life.
